Budget Makeover for your Laundry Room
I’m sharing my best tips for doing a laundry room makeover on a budget!
I think very few of us live in our dream home.
It may not appear that way as we scroll through Instagram and Pinterest.
But it’s true.
Part of living in and loving your home is making the BEST of what you have.
Enter our laundry room…
…slash bathroom.
Yes, it’s a laundry and bathroom combo. Not a favorite, but it’s what we’ve got π
It’s not a beautifully designed space. It’s very functional.
The dryer vent is up high for all to see.
(super lucky)
Same with the connections for the water.
Also, we have our water heater and pipes showing.
Sigh.
So, let’s look on the bright side. This is an important step on the journey to loving your home.
Bright Side
We have cabinets! It’s a finished room and painted.
It’s a full bath, which adds value to our home. The flooring could be worse π
I’ve had to embrace the fact that we’re not going to spend money to move pipes and walls around.
So, here are my best tips for updating a laundry room on a budget! I’m talking less than $50!

First I painted it my favorite black.
Oh my goodness, I am obsessed.
I just painted the wall with the window and then the walls around the vanity.
Never underestimate the power of paint. Like, for serious.
The paint was leftover from another project we did, so it didn’t cost us anything!
It was literally shocking how much simply painting some walls improved the space!
It instantly made the room feel intentional and like it had style.
Secondly, I painted our light fixtures and pulls gold.
Ahhhh, I am loving the gold or brass trends right now! (And I think they’re going to be around for a long time.)
Here is the before:
Next, we added a shelf above the washer and dryer.
I love this look! Sam had to cut around the hoses and vent, but again, it’s ok. It’s what we’ve got.
Finally, I added a closet rod above the water softener so I can hang dry all of Sam’s shirts.
(He hates them in the dryer!) This also (sort of) covers up the pipes!
Those were the main changes I did. The last part is the best part….styling!
How to Style a Laundry and Bathroom Combo
I shopped my house first and pulled out a rug I wasn’t using, along with some plants and a basket.
I added a print Sam made in art school to go above the toilet with some faux stems and in a pot he also made. I thrifted the books.
My favorite part of this whole makeover (besides the black wall!) is the little gallery wall I did under the window!
(Insert excited dance!)
Why not have a gallery wall in your laundry room??
This wall is the view we have from our family room and I am seriously in love. I thrifted the frames too!
This was the view before π
The most expensive thing in this whole update was the closet rod!
Everything else was leftover, reused, or thrifted. It’s amazing the things you can do with what you already have!
That’s how you do a laundry room makeover on a budget π
Storage Ideas for Your Small Laundry Room
Now, you can see that there’s not much storage in this tiny space, so I needed to get creative.
We don’t ever use the shower in there, so I turned it into a storage area!
Don’t cringe….it’s ok π
I added command hooks, a drying rack and made it work for us. No more wasted space!
Is it Pinterest perfect?
Nope. But that’s ok!
How to Love Your Laundry and Bathroom Combo
One huge bonus (and surprise) is that I no longer hate my tile in here!
The paint moderned it up for me and I no longer want to rip it out or paint over it. Yesssss!
Sometimes you just never know until you try.
Laundry Room Makeover (Under $50!)
This laundry room makeover was so affordable
(seriously less than fifty bucks!)
and made such a drastic impact in this space! I couldn’t be happier with it.
