Do you ever walk into a room in your house and cringe?  There’s just that one thing in there that you can’t stand, but haven’t yet gotten around to fixing.  Or replacing.  Or totally over-hauling.  Ya, me too.  For me, that room has been the kitchen eating area, and I’ve been cringing at the chandelier over our table.  I mean, don’t get me wrong, it could be totally worse!  But, I’ve been dying to fix it up and I finally got around to it.  Yay me!!  So today I’m sharing our chandelier makeover DIY and guess what?  It’s totally easy 🙂

So, here’s the before.  Don’t you just love “before” pics??  Like I said, it could be totally worse, but it really isn’t my style and I really didn’t want to have a silver kitchen light fixture.  I wanted to paint my chandelier black.  Whoo-hoo!!

DIY Cage Light

I love, love, LOVE cage lights!!  I think they fit right in with the modern farmhouse style that I love.  Cage lights are an AWESOME idea as well if you are looking for a temporary fix.  Like if you’re renting.  You basically just tighten them around the fixture and you’re done 🙂  Easy.  I found mine here and I couldn’t be happier with how the finished off my chandelier makeover DIY!!  Plus, they were an AMAZING deal!!

DIY Kitchen Light Fixtures

Now, whenever you’re working with lighting and wires, I would NEVER do it without a professional.  My dad is a trained electrician and I had him come and remove my light and then reinstall it for me when it was all done.  It’s too dangerous to attempt without training!

So, like I said, first we removed the light.  Then, I used painters tape to tape off everywhere that I didn’t want painted—ESPECIALLY the wires!!  As you can see, it’s been well taped off 😉

Then, I got my trusty black spay paint, (this kind is my fav) and had at it.  I did 3 layers.  Make sure you get it from every angle!  Chandeliers can be very curvy, and you don’t want to miss a spot.

After it was dry, my dad reinstalled the light and we added the CAGE LIGHTS!!

It was very exciting 😉

I absolutely LOVE how my chandelier makeover DIY turned out!  I reeeeeeally want to put in Edison bulbs, and I’m trying to convince my husband.  He thinks they won’t be bright enough, but they will LOOK even more amazing!

Don’t you just love the black paint on the chandelier?  It gives it a cleaner look and really modernizes it!  So, if you’ve been looking for chandelier makeover ideas, I hope this helped and inspired you!  It’s such an easy update!

Is it necessary to sand and prime the chandelier first? Just received my cage lights and am eager to start!
