Hey friends! Raise your hand if you’re like me and hate sewing!! I know my mother’s heart is broken by this fact, but….it’s true: sewing isn’t something that I love. BUT it is something that I know how to do (the basics, people!). And, being able to sew has saved me money as I’ve decorated my house. I usually make my own curtains and throw pillow covers. It’s basically just sewing a straight line, which I can do, when it’s forced upon me 😉 So, today I’m going to share with you how to make DIY throw pillows the LAZY way.

DIY Throw Pillows
Now, I will say this: if you are looking for perfection, then this tutorial is not for you 😉 (But you may like these favorite throw pillows from 10 designers!) My diy throw pillows aren’t perfect, but I think they look great! No one can tell my lazy tricks, unless they’re looking for it! So, for me, this is the perfect solution to hating sewing, but wanting to save money on my decor: DIY throw pillows in five minutes!
DIY Throw Pillow Covers
So, how do you make your own throw pillows? Start with the pillow you’re going to be covering. Depending on how big it is will determine how much fabric you need.
Once you have your fabric, I fold it in half and lay my pillows over it, and cut it in half. With the fold, you only have three straight lines to sew!
Make sure to fold your fabric inside out, and then sew a straight line down both sides. Leave the bottom edge open.
Turn your fabric right side out and stuff your pillow inside.
Now, here is the part where my mother would hand sew this bottom edge and make the stitches hidden and the seam perfect and beautiful. Me….not so much patience for that!
I cram my pillow down as far as it can go, then I take it to my sewing machine and sew a straight line down the bottom edge. This can be a bit tricky, you have to angle the pillow so you don’t sew over it, and my line is never straight, but this is the bottom of the pillow that is never seen! So, I’m okay with it 😉
Make Your Own Throw Pillows
Now, just make sure your cut off the excess thread, fluff that pillow and you are good to go! Like I said, these DIY throw pillows aren’t for the perfectionist, but for us lazy girls, it’s great! Now I’ve got my gorgeous throw pillow in less than five minutes. Perfect 😉

Another good tip for DIY throw pillows is to use fabric from clothes that you don’t wear anymore. When I was getting rid of my old clothes I realized that some of the long skirts that had had beautiful patterns on them so I kept them and used the fabric to make pillows.
