Farmhouse Wooden Garland, DIY Style
I am LOVING the natural wood look in decor these days. It’s nothing new, but it’s filling my soul with decorating happiness, haha 😉 One of my favorite ways to use the natural wood look is with a wooden garland.
You’ve seen them around–the gorgeous 1-inch wooden beads strung together, sometimes with a tassel on the end.
Sigh.

See what I mean?
SO many ways to decorate with a wood bead garland!
But, they can be pricy to buy.
So, I haven’t done it yet.

So, instead of buying one premade…
(and really, they’re usually not very long! Only 1-2 feet in length. So it wouldn’t work as a garland for my mantle. Bummer.)
…you guessed it, I decided to go the DIY route.

DIY Wood Bead Garland
I should preface this for anyone new here:
I hate to DIY.
I’m probably the laziest person around, and I would much rather just buy things ready. to. go.
That’s my jam.
But sometimes things really CAN be cheaper if you DIY. So, when it’s worth it, I bite the bullet and make something.
Ugh.
Haha, but really, this DIY is SO painless and quick. Perfect for me!
How Much Does it Cost to DIY Wooden Garland?
It cost me $9.
For a 6 FOOT BEADED GARLAND!!!!
Yep.
You read that right.

(Insert dance party right here.)
Now that’s what I call a DIY that’s worth it 🙂

What Supplies Do I Need to Make a Wood Bead Garland
- Wooden beads. I got mine here. They are ridiculously cheap! I used two different sizes: 1inch and 3/4 inch (or 25mm and 20mm) (I ended up using 4 packages of the 1 inch and 2 packages of the 3/4inch.)
- Twine. I had some laying around at home. But Prime will getcha some real quick!
- Something to hang it with. I used these command hooks. I love them because they are tiny and can be camouflaged easily!
How to Make a DIY Beaded Garland
Ready to DIY this sucker?? 😉
As I mentioned in the supply list, I used two different sizes of wood beads for my garland.
I like the variation that multiple sizes give. It’s just a little more interesting to look at!
First I got enough twine for the length I wanted, plus a little bit more for looping at the ends to hang it.
(My mantle is about 5 feet long, so I added about a foot or more to account for the swag I wanted and looping the ends.)
Now, on to the wooden beads.
There was really no rhyme or reason to how I strung them together, I just did a couple or a few of one size, then switched to the other size for a few.
Just do what you think looks best!
Um. That was all I did.
So. Easy.
DIY Wood Bead Garland with Tassels
Some people will put tassels on the ends of their garland, and that is great if you want to do that. I decided not to, just because I like a super clean look.
On the ends of my garland, I tied a knot big enough to keep the wood beads on and made a little loop so it could hang onto my hooks.
The end. 😉
I LOVE how it turned out!
There is a simple beauty to it. And I honestly can’t wait to hang our stockings around our beaded garland! It’ll add some nice texture and interest 🙂
(Christmas is also my jam.)
