DIY Wreath with Chunky Yarn
When I was a teenager, my wardrobe consisted of black, white, and grey clothes. I couldn’t help it….it was what I was drawn to!
When I got older, shows like “What Not To Wear” inspired me to try new colors, and guess what?
They were fine, but I still gravitated towards neutral colors in what I wore.
I’ve gone through a very similar experience with my home decor. I tried to add lots of color, or even just pops of color. And guess what?
I still gravitated towards neutral colors in my home.
Gasp.
I don’t know why it took me so long to just accept what I liked! But ever since I have, I’ve truly loved my home (and my clothes π
How to DIY a NOT-Boring Neutral Wreath
One very important thing that goes with neutral decorating, is adding in texture.
(There are lots more things you can do with neutral decorating that I teach in The Color Scheme Guide. If you haven’t snagged yours yet, it’s completely free! You can get yours right here.)
But back to texture.
Texture is important because it adds interest and depth–which becomes very important when your space is neutral!
It makes it not boring π
Modern Yarn Wreath
I made a cute Christmas craft last year with some creamy chunky yarn that I fell in love with!
I knew that it would be perfect for a chunky yarn wreath DIY, and thought that winter would be the perfect time for it, with all that white texture and all π
Supplies for a Chunky Yarn Wreath DIY
This wreath is soooo simple to make. Here’s what you’ll need:
Styrofoam wreath. I used a 14″.
White chunky yarn. This one is similar to mine.
Hot glue
Any greenery or florals you want to add; I got mine here and here.
How Do You Make a Yarn Wreath?
- Begin with some hot glue on the styrofoam wreath and start wrapping the yarn around, continuously adding glue.
- I started by having the yarn strands right next to each other, but quickly saw that it was coming out wonky.
So, I started spacing the yarn out, to keep it straight.
Then, I went over it again to fill in the gaps.
- Finally, I decided where I wanted to place my greenery.
That’s all there is to it!
