$15 DIY Magnolia Wreath

Where are all my other HGTV mama’s out there? Joanna Gaines, you have ruined us all forever with your gorgeous modern farmhouse style, shiplap, and magnolia wreaths. I love you, but I just can’t drop 100 bucks on a wreath. Like, I just can’t do it! So, because I’m obsessed with them, I found a MUCH cheaper route to getting myself a magnolia wreath–I went the DIY way.

Gasp.

Yes.

Me.

The DIY hater.

Here with another DIY tutorial to make your lives better. 😉

BTW, have you guys seen this video. It will always be HILARIOUS! But when they pull out the Joanna wigs though….oh my heck…hahaha!

But everything is so. true.

Is It Cheaper to Buy or Make a Wreath?

Such a good question. DIY projects can be tricky. If you’re not careful, they can cost you waaaay more in the long run.

But not this one.

Buying a magnolia wreath from Target, Hobby Lobby, Pottery Barn or even from Joanna herself will cost you a pretty penny.

EASILY from $50-100.

Ouchie.

So, I decided to make one myself, like the DIY magician that I am 😉

How Long Do Magnolia Leaf Wreaths Last?

A lot of people on Pinterest will say they can make a DIY Magnolia wreath for even cheaper!

What??

The one I read just found the (real) magnolia leaves in her neighborhood….

….for free.

So ya, that would be cheaper!

But I don’t have magnolia trees lining my neighborhood streets.

Dang it.

Plus, I want my wreath to last for MORE than 4-6 weeks. Which is what you’ll get by using real leaves.

So, what’s a girl to do.

Load the kids in the car and head to Hobby Lobby with my 40% off coupon, girl!

Magnolia Grapevine Wreath

Hobby Lobby sells faux magnolia leaves in bunches. If you get them on sale, they are under ten bucks. Perfect.

I grabbed a grapevine wreath and was out the door.

Supplies You’ll Need to DIY a Magnolia Wreath

  • Faux magnolia leaves. I used one bunch for my wreath.
  • Wreath. I used this one in this size.
  • Hot glue gun and/or craft wire.

How to Make a Faux Magnolia Wreath

The first thing I did was separate the stems from the bunch. I just kept the leaves in the groups of 3 that they were in.

Then I laid them out around the wreath to get an idea of where I wanted them, and to make sure there weren’t any gaps.

(this is the smaller wreath I made, which is why it looks tiny!)

Then I grabbed my glue gun and started gluing the leaves down.

If you are planning on hanging your wreath outside on your front door, I would also suggest using some craft wire to really secure the magnolia leaves.

You know, weather.

Aaaaand that’s it.

All done.

Now you’ve got yourself a gorgeous magnolia wreath! You’re ready for your HGTV debut 😉

AND you’ve saved yourself a buttload of money (insert happy dance here!)

Mini Farmhouse Wreath

I also made myself a smaller version on my faux magnolia wreath.

You’ll use even fewer leaves and a smaller size wreath. (Like this one.)

(Obviously.)

I have this one hanging on my back door.

Did I mention that I’m obsessed with magnolia wreaths….? And the mini size is so cute.

I really hope you give this DIY a try!
