HOW TO DECORATE WITH NEUTRALS FOR CHRISTMAS
If you hate all things red and green, (is that harsh??) and would like neutral Christmas decor this year, this post is for you.
Have you ever felt your style changing? Over the last few years, I’ve started moving away from the traditional red and green Christmas colors and have been drawn to a more neutral Christmas look.
If you are hesitant to go all out on Christmas decorations, neutrals can help you accomplish your look while still feeling like it’s not too much.
I love using neutral Christmas decor because it flows better with my home and the decor I already have.
Neutrals bring warmth, subtlety, and timelessness that I really like in my home.
WHAT ARE NEUTRAL CHRISTMAS COLORS?
When you think of neutral, what comes to mind? If you’re thinking ‘boring’, it doesn’t have to be! Neutrals are black and white, cream, beige, grey, taupe, silver and gold, camel and I even consider olive and navy neutrals!
That’s a lot to work with 🙂
As with everything, styling with neutrals can be tricky at times. Here are 6 tips to help guide you as you decorate for Christmas with neutrals.

NEUTRAL CHRISTMAS DECOR IDEAS
My first tip is to use white lights. Lights are my favorite part of Christmas decorating. They make everything feel cozy and festive no matter what your color scheme is.
Go beyond the tree! Add them to your garlands and wreaths too. Spread the glow throughout your home and bask in the magic of twinkling lights.
CHRISTMAS CANDLES
While we’re on the topic of light, try using candles around your home. Candles really do create a cozy ambiance you can’t get anywhere else.
There are so many options now for candles. You can get battery-operated or remote-controlled ones. Bonus that they’re not fire hazards 😉 I’ve even seen faux candles hung in Christmas trees and it is such a beautiful touch.
Here’s a pack of nine candles in varying heights that come with a remote and timer!
NATURAL GREENERY FOR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
Third, use natural greenery throughout your home. Garlands and wreaths (not to mention the tree!) bring texture and color.
The added element of texture can be just what you need to give your holiday decorations a fresh feel each year.
CHRISTMAS RIBBON
This next tip might be my new favorite-use velvet ribbon. Velvet is luxurious and thick…it’s full of texture!
Tie bows on your greenery and trees. Add them to chairs and windows. This is a classic look that will never go out of style.

NEUTRAL CHRISTMAS DECOR
Fifth, bring in natural elements. We already have our greenery. Think beyond that: add pinecones or neutral berries, even mistletoe!
There are so many different stems of flowers, berries, and varieties of greenery that you can add in and layer with your tree, garlands, and wreaths.
They will bring lots of texture and variation into something that could otherwise be plain on its own.
Here are some beautiful stems that could be great options.
USE VARIATION
My final tip is to vary the sizes of your tree ornaments. Get some large balls, then mix in some medium and smaller ones, and you will be amazed at the difference it makes!
Variation makes things interesting and pleasing to look at.
Here are some of the Christmas balls that I use on my tree, and also these. (I love that they have different finishes, which also adds to the variety!)
I hope these tips help as you use neutral Christmas decor this holiday season!
I’d love to hear which tips you’re going to try out!
