I recently shared with you my buffalo plaid DIY advent calendar—which I am still loving, by the way 😉 (Check it out here!) But I wanted to share another family Christmas tradition that we’ve started this year, now that our kids are a bit older.

Advent calendar book a day
We’ve started a children’s book advent calendar! I debated using Christmas books or not and chose not to, simply because our children’s book collection is pretty sad! Most of their books are used and they are pretty rough looking due to all the chewing and tearing they both did as babies and toddlers. 😉 So I thought doing a children’s book advent calendar would not only be a new, unique family Christmas tradition, but also a fun way to begin building up our book collection!

I decided to wrap each book in brown paper. I love the simplicity of that look and also that it has a rustic, farmhouse feel. You can grab some from Amazon here! I created these cute countdown numbers that you can cut out to place on each book! They are available to print in red or in black and white. Grab them in the Happy Home Vault!
Don’t have access to the Vault yet? No worries!
You can sign up right here! Each day in December, open a new book and read together as a family! It’s been such a fun way to count down the days until Christmas! My kids have LOVED waking up each morning and opening up a new book! If you’re looking for ideas for a new family Christmas tradition to start, you can’t go wrong with this one!
Merry Christmas!
